Welcome back to a new school year! We are very lucky to again be the teachers for both 5th and 6th Grade Dual Immersion teacher at Mill Creek this year. We hope that this year will be a positive and fulfilling year for all students. Here is some of what you can expect for the coming school year: Proficiency Based Grading: Like last year, instead of A,B,C,N students will be graded on how well they understand concepts on a scale of zero to four. A three is good and means that the student has met the standard for their grade level. You can see student grades through the portal at portal.graniteschools.org We will be happy to answer any more questions you have. Homework and Participation: Homework in Spanish can be difficult to complete successfully at home especially if Spanish is not the main language spoken in your family. However, routine practice is critical to building language proficiency, so there will be a Spanish vocabulary and writing assignment every week connected to Spanish words with Greek and Latin origins that we will learn in class. Expect to have one writing assignment each week that includes the five words for the week and the verb of the week. It will be assigned Monday and turned in on Wednesday. There will be a quiz every Friday with the week’s words and five words randomly chosen from previous weeks (keep reviewing!) Mrs. Hall and I also expect students to practice both reading and math at home. Students will be required to read30mn every night and work independently on ST Math so that they can have at least 2.5% progress per week.
Daily Schedule: As in previous years, students will switch teachers after lunch. Please only speak Spanish in Sr. Bellaimey’s class and only English in Mrs. Hall’s class. Outside of class, use whatever language you prefer. Please make sure to come to school on time at 8:35am every day! Communication: We will use Class Dojo this year as a primary means of communication. Dojo Messenger alerts go straight to our cell phones and we can often get back to questions right in the moment (you will always hear from us within 24hrs during the week) You can also email us at [email protected] or [email protected] or call the school and leave a voicemail. Either English or Spanish is fine!
